Reservists called to Gulf

The serenity of college life is subject to quick and radical change for many military reservists attending NIU.

Keith Wettig, associate professor of military science, said he knows of two undergraduate students now serving in the Persian Gulf.

“One of the two reservists is in nursing, and the other commutes,” Wettig said. He declined to give out any personal information other than to say “to the best of my knowledge, we also have 15 to 20 alumni, mostly lieutenants, serving in the Gulf.”

A public affairs spokesman from the Department of Defense said reservists are being called up according to their realm of expertise and type of unit to which they belong.
