DeKALB – The Student Government Association (SGA) failed to meet the quorum of 11 senators required to conduct a senate meeting and scrapped all remaining legislation for this year’s session.

The scrapped legislation includes:

- A bill to repeal the stipend for senators.
- This bill intended to remove the stipend received by senators at the end of the semester following the completion of their responsibilities.
- A bill to remove the responsibility of the stipend from the speaker of the senate’s responsibilities.
- A resolution to confirm the deputy speaker for the 57th Session.
- This resolution intended to confirm Eddie Guerrero, currently the Parliamentarian, as the Deputy Speaker for the 57th session.
Before adjourning the meeting, Speaker of the Senate Manny Corpuz shared some words about his time as a senator.
“My time here was one of the best times I’ve had in college. It’s been a long two and a half years for me running. I started as a senator and I worked my way up, trying to help as many people as I can, helping student organizations, helping in every area that I could,” Corpuz said.
Corpuz thanked the senate for their time and work throughout the session and provided some advice for returning senators.
“My piece of advice for you guys is just to start with the little things and work your way up from there. You’ll see by the end of the year that you’ve accomplished a lot more than you think,” Corpuz said.
