DeKALB – Work on the roundabout project at the Lucinda Avenue and Normal Road intersection will begin May 12 with barricade installation and utility preparation. The project is planned to be completed in August, prior to the start of classes.
DeKalb’s City Council approved the contract for the project’s construction services at its meeting on March 24.
The project, aimed at improving traffic flow and pedestrian safety, will include relocating and improving pedestrian crossings while adding visual and audio signaling at key crossings.
During the roundabout’s construction, a detour will be in place redirecting eastbound Lucinda traffic to continue north on Annie Glidden to Hillcrest Drive, then onto Garden Road to return to Lucinda Avenue.
For westbound Lucinda traffic, signs will direct drivers to turn north on Garden Road to Hillcrest Drive, then to turn westbound on Hillcrest Drive to then turn south on Annie Glidden Road.
Riders of Huskie Bus Line routes 2L, 10, 11, 17 and 19 should expect some delays once the project begins.
Updates regarding this and other ongoing construction projects can be found on NIU’s Facilities Management and Campus Services website.
