Vandals shatter windows

Glass-shattering vandals smashed windows in four cars and two apartments on DeKalb’s west side this weekend.
The rash of vandalism caused damages and thefts totaling more than $2,000, police said Sunday.
Windows were broken in two cars parked in the 800 block of Greenbrier Road early Sunday between 2:15 and 2:45 a.m. The vandals stole a $70 radar detector from one of the cars.
Another car window was smashed in the Old Orchard Apartments parking lot, 1001 W. Lincoln Hwy., some time between 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:11 a.m. Sunday, police said.
Later, a storm window was broken at Stadium View Condominiums, 1231 W. Lincoln Hwy., police said. One tenant heard the glass break and saw five men fleeing in a car, police reports stated.
The windows of two cars parked in the University Plaza lot, 900 Crane Drive, were smashed and the stereos stolen between Thursday and Friday, police said.
However, police said the incidents probably aren’t related.
“With the vehicle incidents, generally the same people are involved,” said DeKalb Police Lt. Chuck Kross. “If you have one or two incidents and you catch the perpetrators, generally you find out they’ve done more.”
There usually aren’t many glass-breaking incidents during winter months because less people walk outside, he said.
