Just four matches into her first season with NIU’s women’s soccer program, graduate student goalkeeper Morgan Lucich has been named the Northern Star’s Huskie of the Week — the first of the 2025-26 sports season.
Lucich, a transfer from UC Santa Barbara, has started in goal for the Huskies in each of their first four matches. After surrendering the only two goals in the season-opening loss to Marquette, Lucich posted back-to-back shutouts in a 1-0 win over DePaul and a 0-0 draw with St. Thomas. The netminder also held Big Ten foe Minnesota scoreless on Sunday until her 27th-minute exit with an injury, after which NIU fell in a 4-0 rout.
This is Lucich’s first Huskie of the Week honor. She is the first women’s soccer player to receive the recognition since graduated senior Abby Zipse was honored on Oct. 28, 2024.
The next Huskie of the Week will be announced Sept. 1.
The Northern Star sports section’s Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were selected based on their performance in competitions taking place from Aug. 14 to Aug. 24.
