Farm seminar plannedby

The DeKalb County Farm Bureau will have help for families who need to transfer their farm land after the head farmers die.

The seminar will be conducted by Rick Morgan, a Country Companies attorney. The seminar will be held at the bureau building, 315 N. Sixth St., Thursday at 7 p.m.

“Country Companies puts on several of these programs a year. We try to cover at least one-third of Illinois counties,” Morgan said.

The seminar’s main focus will be the problems involved in land transfer and estate distribution after a farmer’s death.

“A potential problem is that one or more children are involved in the farming business, (and) other children are not,” Morgan said. “The problem is how to divide the estate equally for the non-farming children.

“A solution is to try to have a plan established to be prepared economically for the event,” he said. “So the surviving spouse or children will be financially secure.”
