Alumni Association scholarships offered
January 23, 1991
All NIU undergraduate, graduate and transfer students interested in applying for the Alumni Association scholarship must submit applications by Feb. 1.
According to the form, to be eligible for the scholarship, a student must submit a one-page typed letter describing his outstanding qualities and educational goals.
The applicant also must submit a one-page letter of sponsorship from an NIU graduate or current faculty member.
These letters must be accompanied by transcripts from the high school the applicant most recently attended, the application stated.
Applications can be picked up at the Financial Aid Office in Swen Parson Hall or at the Alumni Association Office in Lowden 204. The forms also were sent to area high schools for incoming freshman, said Susan Lund, the executive director of the Alumni Association.
Completed applications can be sent to the Alumni Association Scholarship Committee, Lowden Hall 204, by Feb. 1.
Lund said about 30 to 35 scholarships will be awarded. The scholarship awards $700 per semester for full-time students and $350 per semester for part-time students.
The scholarship, which has been awarded in some form for the last 50 years, is merit-based, Lund said. Money for the scholarships comes from private donations from NIU alumni, Lund said.
Students with questions can call Bonnie Walker, secretary of the Alumni Association office, at 753-1452 or stop by Lowden Hall 204.
