After being named to the Hampton Inn Invitational All-Tournament team Sunday, NIU volleyball sophomore outside hitter Emma McCartney has been named the Northern Star’s Huskie of the Week.
In every match at the tournament, which was hosted by Indiana University Indianapolis, McCartney led the Huskies in kills. Totaling 49 kills across three matches, McCartney peaked with 20 kills in the Huskies’ 3-1 victory against Gonzaga University.
McCartney also added 18 digs and 7 blocks, helping power volleyball to its first 7-2 start since 2011.
This is McCartney’s first career Huskie of the Week award, and the second of the season for volleyball after junior middle blocker Autumn Flynn was honored on Sept. 8.
Volleyball begins conference play at 6 p.m. on Sept. 25 at Victor E. Court in the NIU Convocation Center against Central Michigan University. Live stats will be available on SIDEARM Sports.
The Northern Star sports section’s Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were selected based on their performance in competitions taking place from Sept. 8 to Sept. 14.
