DeKALB – An NIU student running club returns this semester and is looking for new members with a passion for fitness and a love for running.
The group, advised by operations management and information systems instructor Karah Osterberg, was started last year and aims to create a hard working community with newcomers and experienced runners.
Conor Bradford, president of the running club, discussed what a typical practice looks like.
“Right now, we’re doing two to three miles,” Bradford said. “Using the track and hurdles, maybe we could do more sprinting, but that’s not right now. Right now, we’re just focused on low mileage, long runs.”
Bradford also discussed the purpose behind the club.
“This club gets people motivated. So then, when there is no running club, I want them to get out and run on their own and do hard things on their own,” Bradford said.
Vice President James Lapenas shared why he thinks others should join the club.
“Our main goal is to promote fitness on campus,” Lapenas said. “It’s just great to start with a community and the running club is a great community you can go to to start your fitness journey.”
The group encourages any students interested in joining to contact the running club on instagram, @NIUrunningclub, or through email, [email protected].
The group typically meets at 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the MLK Commons.
