NIU to feature comedienne

By Tricia Roegner

Comedienne Paula Poundstone, best known for her appearances on “The Tonight Show” and “Late Night with David Letterman” will bring her talents to NIU on Wednesday.

Poundstone’s free show is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center’s Carl Sandburg Auditorium. Her appearance is funded by the student center and the Campus Activities Board Speakers Committee in an effort to bring more students to the student center.

Nationally known as a result of her frequent television guest appearances, she also has received an American Comedy Award as Funniest Female Comedy Club Stand-up and has starred in her own “One Night Stand” comedy special for HBO.

Poundstone is developing her own one-hour “On Location” comedy special for HBO to tape and air later this year. In addition, she will perform again at the Comic Relief IV benefit, held in Radio City Music Hall on May 12.

Her stand-up club appearances take her across the country non-stop and she usually averages between 40 and 45 weeks on the road each year. According to press releases, her improvisational approach toward the audience makes each show an experience unto itself; no two shows are alike.
