DeKALB – The SGA elected a deputy treasurer and two senators Friday in the Sky Room of the Holmes Student Center.
Taoheed Adeoye was elected as senator to represent the University Housing committee in a 9-0 vote.
Adeoye, a sophomore biology major, advocated for more attention given to improving the STEM buildings at NIU.
“I believe most STEM majors are being neglected,” he said. “You can tell by the biology building. It’s been around for years and it rarely gets attention and is always being overlooked.”
Adeoye also outlined changes he wishes to see to improve the dining halls on campus, particularly to the vending machines in Neptune Residence Hall.
“Most machines are usually broken, leaving students to wait hours to find one machine to use,” he said.
Josh Tinajero was elected as senator to represent the College of Business in an 11-1 vote.
Tinajero said he would focus on commuters, advocating for changes to improve their access to NIU. As a business major, Tinajero said his motivation came from meeting another finance student and fellow commuter who had “found great success in real-estate.”
“My first plan of action is to establish a commuter-friendly real estate club,” he said.
Nicholas Gambino was elected to serve as deputy treasurer in a 10-0 vote.
Gambino outlined his plans for the position.
“I’d love the opportunity to contribute to SGA committees. In particular, areas like finance or student organizations,” he said.
Aaron Shaffer was meant to be elected to serve as director of Organization Development, but was absent. His election will take place at the next SGA meeting.
The next SGA meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday in the Sky Room of the Holmes Student Center.
