After scoring a goal and recording an assist to complete NIU men’s soccer’s comeback win against Bradley University on Saturday, sophomore midfielder Martin Montoya has been named the Northern Star’s Huskie of the Week.
Montoya’s goal came in the 87th minute, evening the score for the Huskies in the final minutes. Finding the right angle, Montoya sent the ball past Bradley senior goalkeeper Drew Berry.

Just two minutes later, Montoya’s free kick was sent into the goal off a header from freshman forward Vance Sheffield, sealing a win for NIU.
This is men’s soccer’s second Huskie of the Week honor of the season, after freshman forward Tobias Crear on Sept. 22.
NIU men’s soccer returns to action at 11 a.m. Saturday in Kalamazoo, Michigan, against the Western Michigan University Broncos. The match will be streamed on Youtube and live stats will be updated on StatBroadcast.
The Northern Star sports section’s Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were selected based on their performance in competitions taking place from Sept. 29 to Oct. 5.
