Throughout October, the Egyptian Theatre, located at 135 N. Second St., will host a variety of spooky events to get DeKalb residents ready for Halloween.
The theater’s Horror Film Series will give fans of frightening flicks the chance to see iconic films every Tuesday of October. Tickets are $12 for students with ID and seniors 65+ and $14.50 for adults.
At 7 p.m. on Tuesday check out the 1987 vampire movie “The Lost Boys.” The horror comedy follows brothers Michael (Jason Patric) and Sam (Corey Haim) after they move to a small town in California.
Michael falls in with the wrong crowd: a gang of vampires led by David (Kiefer Sutherland). Sam and his friends must try to stop the pointy-teethed foes and save themselves and his brother.
At 7 p.m. on Oct. 21, the Egyptian Theatre will show “Shaun of the Dead.” Released in 2004, the film follows an average guy in a not-so-average situation: a zombie apocalypse.
In this horror comedy, Shaun (Simon Pegg), a dead-end retail employee, must rise to hero status to protect his loved ones from the hordes of the undead.
Watch Halloween tales unfold on screen at 7 p.m. on Oct. 29. “Trick ‘r Treat” (2007) follows interwoven stories taking place in the small fictional town of Warren Valley, Ohio, on the spookiest night of the year.
Residents face ghosts and goblins in this horror comedy and learn that some Halloween traditions should be followed. At the center of the story is Sam, a mysterious trick-or-treater enforcing the rules of the holiday.
“The Rocky Horror Picture Show”
While not part of the Horror Film Series, this cult-classic film still provides the perfect vibes for the spooky season. At 8 p.m. on Halloween night, the Irrational Masters return to the Egyptian Theatre to perform as a live shadow cast alongside the musical comedy horror.
“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” (1975) follows Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon), a newly engaged couple. After their car breaks down, they must seek refuge in a castle full of elaborately dressed strangers, including the eccentric alien scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry).
Tickets for the show are $24 for general admission.
