battle against Illinois rivals

An uphill battle lies in the path of the NIU wrestling team, who will host University of Illinois Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Chick Evans Field House.

“It’s always been a good rivalry between the two teams. We expect another close one this year. I hope to get a little assistance from the crowd,” said NIU wrestling coach Ed Vatch.

This is the first dual meet of the season for Illinois, who will feature the No. 1 heavyweight in the country—John Llewellyan.

NIU’s T. C. Dantzler is undefeated and ranks No. 16 in the nation.

“We can’t afford to lose any of the matches we’re expected to win. We need a big effort from everyone,” Vatch said.
