The NIU volleyball team wanted to make their last match against Bowling Green State University look like a fluke on Friday night. The Huskies (10-6, 3-4 MAC) looked more like themselves against the Falcons (12-7, 6-1 MAC) the second time around, but failed to capitalize on any found momentum.
Despite finding early leads across all three sets, NIU couldn’t keep them, dropping the match to BGSU 3-0.
OUTDONE
NIU put a better face forward after their previous loss to BGSU, but it still wasn’t enough to get the job done. The Falcons led the Huskies in kills (44-35), blocks (9-8), assists (40-34) and digs (53-45).
Sophomore outside hitter Emma McCartney led in kills for the Huskie offense with 11, followed by junior middle blocker Autumn Flynn’s seven and sophomore outside hitter Ava Grevengoed’s six. McCartney earned her second double-double of the season, also making 10 digs.
Flynn and Grevengoed put up defensive numbers as well, notching 3 and 2 block assists, respectively. For the seventh straight match, sophomore middle blocker Rylea Alvin led in blocks for NIU, jumping 5 block assists. She also helped the offense with 2 kills.
Freshman outside hitter Naomi Dowd put in the work on both sides of the ball, landing 5 kills and contributing 4 block assists.
Redshirt junior and sophomore setters Kylie Schulze and Ella Strausberger combined for 29 assists, making 17 and 12, respectively. Schulze picked up 1 service ace while Strausberger added 1 kill for the attack.
