After scoring the goal that handed the Western Michigan University Broncos their first conference loss, NIU women’s soccer senior forward Kelsi McLaughlin is the Northern Star’s Huskie of the Week.
In the 16th minute of NIU’s 1-0 victory over the Broncos, McLaughlin found the left corner of the net off an assist from sophomore forward Alyssa Stephenson.
The win was the first for the Huskies against Western Michigan since 2016, and was the Broncos’ third loss this season.
McLaughlin also recorded a shot on goal in NIU’s 1-0 loss to Kent State on Sunday.
This is McLaughlin’s second career Huskie of the Week honor, and the third of the season for women’s soccer after graduate goalkeeper Morgan Lucich and Stephenson.
The Huskies return to action at 7 p.m. Thursday at the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex against Bowling Green State University. The game will be streamed on NIU All-Access and live stats will be updated on SIDEARM Sports.
The Northern Star sports section’s Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were selected based on thir performance in competitions taking place from Oct. 6 to Oct. 12.
