After scoring the game-tying goal in NIU men’s soccer’s draw against Belmont University, freshman forward Niko Angulo has been named the Northern Star’s Huskie of the Week.
In the 88th minute, Angulo collected senior midfielder Jose Gomez’s blocked shot and sent the ball into the back of the net, equalizing the game in the final minutes.
With the tie, the Huskies remain unbeaten in Missouri Valley Conference play and moved to second in the conference standings.
This is the first Huskie of the Week for Angulo and the third of the season for men’s soccer after freshman forward Tobias Crear on Sept. 22 and sophomore midfielder Martin Montoya on Oct. 6.
NIU men’s soccer hosts the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex. The match will be streamed on NIU All-Access and live stats will be updated on SIDEARM Sports.
The Northern Star sports section’s Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were selected based on their performance in competitions taking place from Oct. 7 to Oct. 13.
