DeKALB – The DeKalb Police Department and the Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC) have teamed up to conduct alcohol compliance checks at local retailers.
According to the department, undercover compliance checks took place on the evenings of Oct. 15 and Nov. 5. The teams conducting the checks included DeKalb police officers, ILCC agents and underage teenagers.
These compliance checks are conducted to prevent underage drinking and to make sure local retailers with liquor licenses comply with state and local laws.
Most licensees passed the compliance checks.
According to the press release, the following businesses passed the compliance check:
While most businesses complied, three establishments failed and were cited for selling alcohol to a minor. The employees who failed to comply were cited and given a violation notice to appear before the city administrative hearing officer.

Commander Tony Kwasniewski spoke about the goals of these checks.
“The results show us there is still work to do in the world of prevention around minors’ access to alcohol,” Kwasniewski said. “The majority of licensees during this compliance check demonstrated that carding those who try to purchase alcohol in DeKalb is a top priority. We commend them for upholding the law and putting the safety of our youth first.”
