DeKALB – The DeKalb Police Department recently conducted a tobacco compliance check at stores in DeKalb.
The check comes after the department conducted alcohol compliance checks in collaboration with the Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC) on Oct. 15 and Nov. 5.
The checks are conducted to ensure that tobacco retailers are following the laws that prevent the sale of tobacco products to minors.
A total of 32 tobacco retailers were checked for their compliance with tobacco laws, and nine establishments were found to violate the law by selling tobacco to minors.
The businesses that received Ordinance Violations are as follows:
- Rocky Mini Mart – 817 W. Lincoln Highway
- Casey’s – 1231 E. Lincoln Highway
- Huskie’s Discount Liquor – 1030 Arcadia Drive
- SAV Marketplace – 125 N. Annie Glidden Road
- The Smoke Shop – 830 W. Lincoln Highway
- Citgo – 920 W. Lincoln Highway
- Dollar General – 1401 S. Fourth St.
- 7-Eleven – 2700 Crego Road
- Marathon – 933 S. Fourth St.
The City of DeKalb is continuing to actively educate retailers about the minimum-age tobacco laws and the importance of verifying customers’ ages.
