Police Department keeps tobacco retailers in check

By Northern Star staff

DeKALB | The City of DeKalb Police Department administered tobacco compliance checks at 27 tobacco retailers on Nov. 12.

Two locations were issued notices to appear in court after appearing to sell tobacco to a minor upon the first of three rounds of inspection.

The two locations that were found in violation include 7-11, 930 North Annie Glidden Road and Amoco, 920 West Lincoln Highway.

The compliance checks are used to enforce and educate tobacco retailers on minimum-age tobacco laws including the importance of verifying identification. The compliance checks are funded with a grant from the Illinois Liquor Control Commission’s “Kids Can’t Buy Em Here” Tobacco Enforcement Program.

All retailers communicated with a police department employee about the checks and were presented with an information kit.
