Thanksgiving break is less than two weeks away, meaning many students and staff across NIU’s campus may have their plans ready and set to spend their break.
Whether that be you spending Thanksgiving with family, watching the Macy’s Day Parade or the NFL Thanksgiving Day game, there is something to enjoy during break.
Apart from the time off school, something to look forward to is the array of delicious food items across the Thanksgiving table, such as the classic turkey, stuffing, mac and cheese or pumpkin pie. There should be a food item that fits everyone’s taste.
So, Huskies, how are you spending your Thanksgiving break, and what is your favorite Thanksgiving food?
Kevin Becerra-Cardoza, a graduate law student, is going to spend Thanksgiving with friends.
Q: What are your plans for Thanksgiving?
A: For Thanksgiving, I am going to actually be hanging out with my friends. I’m not from here, I’m from Georgia. But thankfully one of my friends’ family is inviting me over. So I’ll be over at their place for Thanksgiving.
Q: Do you have any favorite Thanksgiving foods?
A: Her dad is making brisket, and so I’m really looking forward to that.
Lucas Gutman, a first-year mechatronics engineering major, is going back home to New Jersey.
Q: What are your plans for Thanksgiving?
A: My plans for Thanksgiving is, I’m going to go home, visit my family in New Jersey. So I’m gonna fly out Tuesday and come back Monday.
Q: Do you have any favorite Thanksgiving foods?
A: Probably just normal stuff, turkey mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing.
Will Nolan-Lamm, housing area coordinator, is still undecided on his plans for celebrating Thanksgiving.
Q: What are your plans for Thanksgiving?
A: Currently unknown, I might go see some family. I usually do a Friendsgiving on a Saturday. Also, just moved into a new house, so I might be doing my own Thanksgiving. I haven’t quite decided yet.
Q: Do you have any favorite Thanksgiving foods?
A: Corn pudding, which is a mixture of cream corn, regular corn and cornbread cooked in like a casserole dish.
Leilah Cantu, a first-year criminology major, plans on having dinner with her family.
Q: What are your plans for Thanksgiving?
A: I think I’m just going to go back home and have dinner with my family.
Q: Do you have any favorite Thanksgiving foods?
A: Well, I look forward to this dessert that my uncle makes. It’s like a sweet potato and it has mashed potatoes and, what’s it called, marshmallows.
