NIU women’s swim team splits in weekend action

It’s not that NIU women’s swimming coach Mike Burt is an easy person to please, the Huskie swim boss is simply seeing some bright spots.

For openers, his Huskies did win Friday’s dual meet with the University of Northern Iowa by a 65-48 margin to even their season record at 1-1. And in Saturday’s Western Illinois University Relays, even a third-place finish among four teams provided reasons to smile.

“Quite honestly, we got more consistent and better as the meet went along,” Burt said. “It took us until the second half of the meet to get going, but we did get going. We’re showing signs of improvement and that’s what’s important.”

Pam Jackson (200-yard freestyle), Beth Dragas (50-yard freestyle), and Kim Bell (100-yard butterfly) all won individual events. Jenny Horoky won both the one and three-meter diving against Northern Iowa then combined with Nichole Green and Jenny Anderson for second place in the WIU relay meet.
