NIU men’s basketball (3-6) has now lost three in a row, falling 84-55 against the Bradley University Braves (6-4) Saturday in Peoria, Illinois.
“From the backboard standpoint, we got to find our identity,” head coach Rashon Burno said. “On the offensive end, it’s kind of gotten away from us. We’re not shooting it particularly well from the two, three, or free throw line, which is mind boggling with the amount of work these guys put in.”
The first half lacked offensive production with the Huskies trailing 39-26 at halftime after shooting 3/16 (18.75%) from deep and 9/34 (26.47%) from the field.
The Braves were able to further extend their lead in the second half, overpowering the Huskies 45-29 in the back half of the game. NIU scored half of their 12 free throw shots and went 10/31 (32.26%) from the field.
Freshman guard Dylan Ducommun led the Huskies with 17 points, going 6/15 (40%) from the field and 3/4 (75%) from the free-throw line. Sophomore guard Gianni Cobb came off the bench to provide 11 points of production to keep NIU in the game, shooting 4/6 (66.67%) from the free-throw line.
“We have the week off,” Burno said. “We’ll watch film, give these guys a day to decompress, and then we absolutely have to get back to work.”
