‘Dog Pound’ comes to NIU
November 30, 1990
There is nothing more unnerving, more disturbing, or more intimidating to an opposing team than seeing a rowdy student body completely dedicated to disrupting the opponent’s entire game plan.
The home court advantage is well known in large universities such as Duke and North Carolina, and seeing how effective this type of intimidation has become, the NIU men’s basketball program has come up with “The Dog Pound.”
The “Dog Pound” is the brainchild of the men’s basketball staff and team. The idea behind it is to charge up the team for the games and to provide a true home-court advantage.
Any large and rowdy student body is bound to get attention from the opposing team, the home team, and the television cameras.
The men’s team has been tentatively scheduled to have four home games on TV this season, providing the opportunity for Huskies fans to show a wide range of the TV audience that NIU has school spirit.
Benefits of being a member of the “Dog Pound” include getting free tee-shirts and getting a chance to personally meet members of the team and the coaching staff.
Other benefits and ideas for the “Dog Pound” will be discussed at the first “Dog Pound” meeting which will take place in the Hall of Fame Room at the Chick Evans Field House on Monday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m.
