DeKALB – At approximately 5:45 p.m on Tuesday, a 5-month-old was pronounced dead at the Loyola University Medical Center due to life-threatening injuries.
Around 4:19 p.m. on Monday, the DeKalb Police Department responded to a call from Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital regarding a 5-month-old infant who had been rushed to the emergency room by his father, DeKalb resident Dominic Larson.
The infant had been transported to the hospital with life-threatening facial injuries, which included a fractured skull and hemorrhages to the brain.
When deputies from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office contacted the father, they instructed Larson to remain on the scene to speak with them. Larson ignored the order and walked away, leading deputies to physically restrain and handcuff him. He was then transported to the DeKalb Police Department for questioning.
According to a press release from the police department, “Deputies noticed that Larson appeared to be intoxicated, and during Larson’s interaction with Deputies, he was ordered to stay and wait to speak to Officers from the DeKalb Police Department.”
The infant was airlifted to the Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois, because of the severity of injuries. Upon arrival, medical personnel notified the DeKalb Police Department the infant was unlikely to survive. The medical staff then pronounced the infant dead at 5:45 p.m that evening.
Following an extensive police investigation, Larson was promptly arrested and taken into custody.
“The DeKalb Police Department conducted a thorough investigation into this horrific and senseless crime, which led to the immediate arrest of this violent offender,” the press release reads.
According to the press release, the DeKalb County States Attorney’s Office approved charges for first-degree murder against Larson. He is also facing charges of aggravated battery, reckless conduct and endangering the life and health of a child.
