DeKALB – NIU announced that campus operations will be moved to virtual from midnight to 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
The change comes after the National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for DeKalb and McHenry Counties.
According to an email sent to students on Sunday, face-to-face classes before 4:30 p.m. have been encouraged to move to virtual operations and to only be cancelled if necessary.
All services and offices on campus will be operating virtually Monday, but employees designated as essential service, which are defined as “critical to services and facilities that maintain business operations for NIU” according to the university’s website, who have been authorized and advised to report to duty are expected to do so.
According to a report from the National Weather Service, whiteout conditions are expected, which can make traveling potentially dangerous. Total snow accumulations are expected to reach between 3 to 5 inches with ice accumulations as well.
All hosted events before 4:30 p.m. Monday is expected to be cancelled or moved virtually.
