DeKalb Police anticipate Halloween pranks

DeKalb Police expect Halloween night to be filled with the usual assortment of annoying but harmless pranks.
“We don’t experience things like Detroit does with hundreds of fires in abandoned buildings,” said DeKalb Police Lt. Dick Moudy.
Moudy said police foresee smashed pumpkins and soaped windows, but DeKalb’s Halloween celebrations are relatively safe.
“It doesn’t get more rowdy than a weekend usually does,” he said.
Although someone costumed as a Ninja warrior scared people Saturday by jumping out of bushes near Douglas Hall, University Police said they expect only a slight increase in complaints on Halloween.
Halloween revelers might smash pumpkins and decorate campus trees with toilet paper, but the UPs have not scheduled any extra patrols for the October holiday, UP Lt. Ron Williams said.
Sycamore police said they will be prepared for the trick-or-treaters. “We gear up for more activity than usual during this time of year,” said Police Officer Robert Rosenberg.
If Wednesday’s weather is good, it might mean more trouble for police, he said. “If the weather is nice and it doesn’t rain there will be more kids out and more activity,” Rosenberg said.
However, DeKalb Police recommend people make the most out of the night. “Enjoy yourself, but don’t get carried away,” Moudy said.
