DeKALB — A fire at the loading dock of Target was extinguished within 17 minutes on Saturday morning, with no injuries reported.
Fire crews were dispatched at 8:53 a.m. to 2555 Sycamore Rd. after multiple callers reported visible flames near the store’s loading dock. Units arrived within six minutes and extinguished a fire between a parked semi-trailer and the building, according to a press release from the City of DeKalb.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the exterior flames while additional crews entered the store to check for occupants and fire extension.
Store employees attempted to promptly put out the fire with extinguishers while fire crews were on their way.
Lovett’s Towing Company was called to move the semi-trailer away from the building. Smoke was contained to the loading dock and didn’t spread into the main store, officials said. As a result, the store was temporarily closed for about one hour and 15 minutes before reopening.
The amount of damages are estimated to be around $50,000, though a full assessment is still underway.
The DeKalb County Health Department reports no injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported on the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
