After throwing his second-straight complete game and earning Mid-American Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week, NIU baseball junior pitcher Max Vaisvila has been named the Northern Star’s Huskie of the Week.
In the Huskies’ win against Miami University on March 21, Vaisvila threw NIU’s first complete game in almost two years, just a week before duplicating his performance against Bowling Green State University on Saturday.
Vaisvila’s 14 strikeouts are second most in a single game for NIU, just one under the 15-strikeout record.
Sitting second in the MAC and first on the team with a 2.56 ERA, Vaisvila also sits second in the conference for strikeouts with 50.
The southpaw also has the fourth-best batting average against in the MAC with opposing hitters batting at just a .193 clip against him this year.
Vaisvila is the fourth Huskie of the Week for NIU baseball, following junior pitcher Danny Cihocki, senior outfielder Caden Robertson and senior catcher Ivan Dahlberg.
The Huskies’ next game will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday against the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts. Live stats for the game will be available via Stat Broadcast.
The next Huskie of the Week will be announced on April 6.
The Northern Star sports section’s Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were selected based on their performance in competitions taking place from March 24 to March 30.
