In the finale of a three-game series on Sunday, NIU softball (23-14, 16-6 MAC) was shutout 4-0 against the Western Michigan University Broncos (24-23, 13-11 MAC).
The Huskies were held to just two hits and it was their first time being shutout in MAC play this season.
Western Michigan’s defense kept NIU’s offense in check the entire game and the Broncos were disciplined against the Huskies’ pitchers.
Junior pitcher Hannah Bolly (4-3) started the game for NIU and earned her third loss of the year. Bolly pitched 2.1 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 1 hit and 1 walk.
Graduate student pitcher Madison Carlson pitched the remainder of the game, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits. Carlson previously pitched 7 innings in the first game of the series.
“Good to get the series, but always looking to win all three,” NIU head coach Kathryn Gleason said via text. “We will get our bats going again to prepare for the week ahead.”
