Finding the right student organization to join can be made easy by attending NIU’s second Organizational Expo.

“All students can see what NIU can offer,” said Z. Ahmad, University Programming and Activities program coordinator for student organizations. As part of the expo, 70 campus organizations will display booths in the Holmes Student Center Ballroom from noon to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12.

Free food, drink, giveaways and information will be provided along with mini-presentations including tap dancing and various skits. There also will be a Best Display Booth contest and Pinata Making Party. The finished pinatas will be sent to the NIU Child Care Center for the children to decorate.

One attraction this year will be a Star Trek enthusiasts group, Ahmad said. “It should be fun stuff,” he said.

Presentations include Psi Chi at noon, Billy and Gary Tap Dance at 12:15 p.m., AKA at 12:30 p.m., the Forum for Marxist-Humanist Thought at 1 p.m., Alpha Phi Alpha at 1:15 p.m., Comsac at 1:30 p.m., Alpha Phi Omega at 1:45 p.m., NIU’s Black Choir at 2:15 p.m. and the American Marketing Association at 3:45 p.m.

Joe Montemayor, NIU Motorcycle Club head, said the first expo helped make his club fully operational. He said “a motorcycle will be rolled in to best represent our club.”

Also represented will be O’Connor Global Eduacation with a showcase of different countries around the world. Assistant Director Pete West said “come and experience cultures from around the world.”
