Petition deadline extended for SA

The Student Association suspended the election petition deadline Wednesday for more time to recruit candidates, but has not announced when elections will be held.
SA President Rob McCormack said he wants more time to personally contact different groups, especially minority organizations, to consider running candidates for the election.
McCormack said he will talk to the Organization for Latin American Students (OLAS) on Thursday.
“We are looking for a senate that is representative of the student body,” he said. “I am out to get as many people (to run) as possible.”
The elections were originally supposed to be held on Sept. 13 and 14.
McCormack said he was not aware of the number of candidates running, but he said “a number” of petitions were taken out.
SA Public Relations Adviser Lara Cipolla said a candidate needs 200 signatures to run for the senate or can run as a write-in candidate for one of the 40 available seats.
Cipolla said the senators’ responsibilities include SA meetings once a week and working on committees.
