No suspects yet inunprovoked attack

Witnesses who saw an unknown assailant break one man’s nose and punch another’s face on campus Friday night cannot identify any possible suspects, University Police said.
“Officers have determined from talking to witnesses that they are either unwilling or cannot identify any suspects,” said UP Sgt. Ralph Taylor.
The victims and witnesses saw photographs of possible suspects but could not identify anyone, Taylor said.
Taylor said the investigation is at a standstill. “Someone must be identified before anyone can be charged with the crime,” he said.
This was the second incident this semester of unprovoked battery against an NIU student, said Larry Bolles, NIU’s Judicial Office director.
“I have a sense that some students left the Holmes Student Center, walked across campus and slugged a few people,” Bolles said.
Bolles said he plans to penalize the assailants severely when he finds them.
“If your idea of a good time is to walk down the street socking people—that’s totally unacceptable,” he said.
