Need information about a campus organization?
NIU’s Leadership Resource Center provides an information booth for students and advisers interested in learning about “everything you need to know in running an organization,” said Z. Ahmad, University Programming and Activities program coordinator.
Resource file handouts, books, catalogs, videos, games, handbooks and network channels all are provided at the information booth on the sixth floor of the Holmes Student Center. Office hours are 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The center’s handouts are free and other resources may be checked out for two weeks.
Students establishing organizations can get information on how to motivate job volunteerism and valuable tips about “icebreaker” meetings to make new members feel comfortable.
Faculty advisers can get resources on advising students, fund raising information and projects on how to most efficiently run events, such as retreats.
Students also can find information on job and graduate assistant positions available, especially education. Information not provided at the booth can be acquired through a referal service, Ahmad said.
Ahmad said he would like to see the center expand and contain more resources. He encourages sponsors, donations, pamphlets and brochures from organizations. Once donated, these will be displayed at the information booth.
Also, he said he would like all students and faculty advisers to come see what the Leadership Resource Center has to offer.
