Permit colors and prices:
Yellow permits are available to students living beyond walking distance from campus and are not on any bus route. Students with yellow permits can park in yellow or brown lots and some blue lots.
Orange permits are available to any student living in university-owned housing. Students with orange permits can park in any orange or brown lot.
Green permits are available only to students who have assistantships and fellowships awarded through the graduate school. These students can park in any green, yellow or brown and some blue lots after 4 p.m.
Brown permits are available to students living in walking or busing distance from campus. Students can park in any brown and some blue lots after 4 p.m.
All the above permits cost $30, $22.50, or $12. Price varies with the time the permits were bought.
($335, $225, or $100) Red permits designate a specific reserved parking space. A limited number are available to full-time employees and people with disabilities. Spaces are reserved from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Red permit holders can park in any red, blue or brown parking lot.
($35, $24.50, or $15) Blue permits are available to employees with current NIU employee identification cards. Vehicles with the blue permits can park in any blue or brown parking lot.
($10, $7, or $5) Motorcycle permits are available to employees and students. Cycle parking is permitted only in designated cycle lots or metered lots.
Transferable permits are available to employees and students who wish to use their permits on more than one vehicle (except motorcycles). A cost of $2 is added to the permit for transferable permits.
