Unity” events follow plans
August 24, 1990
Unity in Diversity activities should follow any one of the following criteria according to a draft of suggested criteria from the committee:
An activity should educate the community about differences and how the differences can strengthen the community.
It should highlight positive aspects of different races and cultures.
Also, an activity should promote and celebrate diversity.
An activity should educate the community about the sensitivities of people in protected classes.
The committee also formed a list of things not to do at the activities:
Perpetuate negative stereotypes about groups.
Harass, intimidate, threaten, offend, or seriously embarrass any persons on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
Contain a message that reinforces the oppression of or discrimination against groups.
Promote permissiveness relative to harassment of protected class members.
An activity which violates the above list is subject to a review by the Unity in Diversity committee and the sponsor of the activity.
