Play and dinner

A dinner-theater performance of “Oedifice Lex,” a satirical attack on everything serious, will come to NIU on Sept. 15 and will highlight the College of Law’s alumni reunion weekend.
Cocktails will be at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and the performance at 8:30 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center’s Duke Ellington Ballroom. Tickets cost $40 and reservations for tables of six or eight are being taken before Sept. 1.

Volunteers win contest
Sondra King, an assistant director of dietetics, nutrition and food service at NIU, will receive a first place Leadership in Volunteerism Experience Award. Also a winner is NIU junior and pre-business major Jeanette Lach.
King and Lach will receive $500 checks and a matching donation of the same amount for the charity of their choice. The contest was sponsored by Illinois Bell and both will be awarded on Sept. 6, 7 and 8 in Monticello, Ill.
Music classes forming
Children and adults are invited to open registration for NIU’s Community Music School on Sept. 5 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 in the Music Building’s recital hall. Some classes offered are Children’s Recorder Ensemble, Jazz Education Class and Beginning and Intermediate and Continuing Guitar.
Private and group lessons for children in violin, piano and flute are also offered by the Suzuki program. Orientation for children and parents is Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. in the recital hall.
