GOP rallies behind Baise for treasurer

Greg Baise is the Republican candidate running against Democrat Pat Quinn for Illinois state treasurer. Baise resigned from his position as Illinois Department of Transportation secretary in Nov. 1989.

He was appointed transportation secretary in Nov. 1984 and served until Dec. 1985, and was then reappointed in Jan. 1987.

Baise was responsible for creating the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Small Business Bureau which oversees the department’s Minority/Female Business Enterprises program.

His political career began in the early 70s as a congressional intern in Washington, D.C. Baise was elected alderman to the city council in Jacksonville, Ill. in 1975.

A spokesman for the Baise ‘90 Campaign said Baise runs a small business dealing in pagers.
