Eddie Williams, vice president of NIU Finance and Planning provided a break down of the almost $4 million budget for asbestos removal and replacement and remodeling the University Health Services:
Replacement of two 75-ton air cooled condensers—$55,120. Installing two handicapped bathrooms—$44,096.
Patch plaster at windows—$30,316. Miscellaneous tuckpointing—$11,024.
Purchase and installation of 12 latching doors—$4,028.
Roof replacement—$110,000 plus contingency, Capital Development Board and architects’ fees.
Asbestos abatement and replacement—$1,977,264 plus contingency, CDB and architects’ fees.
Replacement of ductwork—$362,470 plus contingency, CDB and architects’ fees.
The EPA requires an industrial hygienist to test the air. The hygienist will work for 250 days once the project is finished—$250,000.
Plus 10 percent of the total for contingency, 9 percent for architects’ fees and 1.5 percent to the CDB.
