Hit-and-run kills man
June 20, 1990
A hit-and-run driver killed a DeKalb man early Tuesday morning on West Lincoln Highway, according to the DeKalb County Coronor.
Robert B. MacDonald, 39, 1325 W. Lincoln Highway, DeKalb, was found lying on the pavement in the 1300 block of West Lincoln Highway at about 1 a.m., DeKalb County Coronor Dennis Miller said.
The body was found in the street. “An officer responded to a call by a concerned citizen,” said DeKalb Police Chief Donald Berke.
MacDonald’s roommate told Miller that the victim left home at about 12:45 a.m. to go to a nearby store.
The victim was found in the westbound lane, but Miller said he did not know what side of the road MacDonald was on when the incident happened.
“He was possibly trying to cross the street,” Miller said.
Although evidence was found at the scene, no one has come forward with information, Miller said.
An autopsy was performed late Tuesday afternoon, Miller said.
DeKalb County State’s Attorney Mike Coghlan refused to confirm or deny the existence of an investigation into the incident.
An inquest is pending, Miller said.
