Faculty fills vacancies

NIU faculty filled ten vacancies in the University Council Monday.

Council Executive Secretary J. Carroll Moody said the vacancies were caused by the end of former council members three-year terms. Some colleges, including the College of Business, College of Engineering and College of Law did not have elections because there were no vacancies, he said.

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences elected seven faculty: Learning and Development Professor Peter Abrams, Physical Education Chairwoman Judith Bischoff, Associate Geology Professor Eugene Perry, Anthropology Professor Ronald Provencher, Philosophy Professor Sherman Stanage, Associate Sociology Professor Robert Suchner and English Professor William Williams.

Associate Professor Lorys Oddi was elected to represent the School of Nursing by the College of Professional Studies.

The College of Visual and Performing Arts elected Music Professor Charles Blickhan and Art Professor Norman Magden.

Moody said the UC Elections Committee counted the final ballots Monday morning.

April will also mark the birth of the Faculty Senate. Moody said departments must hold senate elections before April 24. The senate, slated to start business this fall, will replace the Faculty Assembly.
