NIU students to elect SA executive officers
April 11, 1990
NIU students will elect Student Association President, Vice President and Treasurer today and Thursday.
Students can vote in DuSable Hall lobby, Founders Memorial Library and the Holmes Student Center’s Pow Wow Cafeteria.
The polls will be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
SA Elections Commissioner Ray Callahan said students should bring their identification cards with spring 1990 validation sticker in order to cast a ballot.
About 2,300 students, less than 10 percent of the student population, voted in last year’s executive election, Callahan said.
However, it is hard to say how many students will vote this year, Callahan said.
SA President Huda Scheidelman said last year’s turnout was far above previous years.
Callahan said he would like the turnout to be higher.
“I hope more than 10 percent of the students vote for the person who is going to represent them next year,” Callahan said.
“Students need to recognize the importance of voting and that the candidates selected will have impact on issues effecting them,” Scheidelman said.
