Owens, Hinchee on Dist. IV team

NIU women’s basketball standouts Tammy Hinchee and Carol Owens added selection to the United States basketball Writers Association District Four team to their list of accomplishments for the 1989-90 season.

Hinchee, a 6-foot-2 senior forward, and Owens, a 6-foot-3 senior center, are joined on the 10-player USBWA District Four squad by Purdue University’s MaChelle Joseph and Joy Holmes; Amy Rakers, Southern Illinois; Karen Robinson, Notre Dame; Veronica Ross, DePaul; Nicole Sanchez, Ohio State; Kelly Savage, Toledo; and Michelle Savage, Northwestern.

Hinchee led NIU’s rebounding (10.4 rpg) and was the team’s No. 2 scorer (19.7 ppg). She closed her collegiate career as NIU’s all-time leading rebounder (1,009) and is No. 2 on the all-time scoring list and blocked shots (200).

Owens adds the USWBA District Four honor to her second Kodak District Four all-America regional team selection announced March 30. Owens is NIU’s all-time leading scorer (2,102). She is the first Huskie to reach both the 2,000-point and 1,000-rebound milestones (1,028).
