CAB continues activities into summer

Although summer break is right around the corner, NIU’s Campus Activities Board will continue to provide entertainment to students.

A Day in the Park will wind up Springfest ‘90 with several band performances from 12 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the East Lagoon.

Throughout the week, “nooners”—or afternoon band mini-concerts—will be performed in the King Memorial Commons. Other springfest events include volleyball, softball, golf and bed-races.

Although the summer program is not completely scheduled, CAB President Brett White said there are several events in the works.

Students can travel to Milwaukee, Wis., May 4 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. to shop or visit the Milwaukee Zoo. Tickets are $6.

A Washington, D.C. bus trip is scheduled from May 13 to May 20. Tickets are $150 and can be purchased at the CAB office in the lower level of the Holmes Student Center.

Other trips include Chicago Cubs and Sox games, said Beth Muelleman, CAB summer program coordinator. CAB also will take students to Great America in Gurnee.

Students will not have to go without movies, Muelleman said. There will be free recent movies every Wednesday in Diversions at 7 p.m. CAB also will offer classic movies “almost every other Sunday night” in Diversions, Muelleman said.

CAB also will sponsor campus “special fun type projects,” such as an ice cream social and a food fest in the MLK Mall, White said.

Nooners will continue during the summer, but CAB is looking for a new location because of MLK Mall construction, Muelleman said.

He said the summer events will fit the needs of students while creating a relaxed atmosphere.

Muelleman encourages anyone interested in helping the summer staff to call CAB at 753-1580.
