Lambda Chi plans kidnapping event

By Marc Alberts

Some of DeKalb’s most prominent people will be kidnapped and held for ransom Sunday.

Lambda Chi Alpha is hosting their first “Jail-n-Bail,” said LCA Vice President Mike Alber. The fraternity obtained permission to “capture” the mayor and some well-known NIU coaches and hold them for ransom, he said. The money received will go to the Salvation Army.

The fraternity is hosting the event from 11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. The event will also feature a live band and a dunk tank. Alber said 10 local restaurants will set up food stands and make donations to the Salvation Army.

Alber said anyone can come to the 917 Greenbrier location and donate money.

DeKalb Mayor Greg Sparrow, NIU coaches Pettibone, Molinari, Albright and others have agreed to participate in the charity function, Alber said.

The presidents of 16 fraternities and sororities will also be held and ransomed.

The Salvation Army told Alber they will use the money to re-stock their food supplies. The food will be distributed among the needy people in DeKalb.

Anyone can be kidnapped for five minutes and held for ransom, Alber said. “If you have a friend that you want put away for a while for a small donation…,” he said.
