Council sponsors week for students
April 10, 1990
An NIU-based council will sponsor Illinois Business Week 1990 during the summer at North Central College in Naperville.
Illinois Business Week 1990 is sponsored by the Illinois Council of Economic Education, said David Dierterle, the council executive director. Illinois Business Week is a one-week program, June 24 through 30, for high school sophomores and juniors.
“Students are introduced to the world of economics and business through varied speakers,” Dierterle said.
Students stay at North Central College and learn about the American economic system, the Illinois economy and business competition, he said. The students also tour local businesses, he said.
About 100 students participate in the fair, Dierterle said. The students are divided into groups called companies and one company is made up of teachers, he said. Teachers who take part in the event can receive graduate credit from NIU, he said.
Students who participate are funded with $350 scholarships, he said. Students must pay a small acceptance fee, he said. The deadline to apply for admission and scholarships is April 15.
