Library group plans annual book sale to help Founders’

During spring cleaning, donate unwanted books for sale instead of throwing them away.

Friends of NIU Libraries will be hold its eighth annual book sale April 24 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and April 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the lobby of Founders Memorial Library.

Books needed include literary and scholarly classics, popular novels, children’s books, cookbooks, paperbacks, reference books and collected works.

To donate books, people can drop them off at the information desk of the library. Books also can be dropped off at the law office of Friends’ President Ron Klein, 122 S. Locust, Sycamore, or at his home, 230 Forsythe Lane, DeKalb.

Books over five years old are not needed, including study guides, government documents, report literature and magazines.

Sale Coordinator Earl Shumaker said those items just do not sell because there is no need for them.

Money made from the sale will be used to purchase rare books, manuscripts and other materials the library could not acquire, Shumaker said.

Shumaker said the library can always use more books. “The more, the better.”
