So far this year, the NIU women’s gymnastics team has already begun editing the Huskie record book.

This Saturday’s 1 p.m. Chick Evans Field House meet with the University of Illinois-Chicago and Winona State University might just be the perfect opportunity to do some more rewriting. The Huskies stand 5-3 after having scored a season-best 180.45 last weekend in beating the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and UIC.

In that meet, Laurie Vitallo matched the four-year-old floor exercise record of 9.65. Freshman Vicki Thimgan already owns the balance beam mark of 9.55 and has been within a tenth of the all-around mark of 37.10. Even as a team, the Huskies are inching closer and closer to the school record of 182.40. All it takes is one good meet, maybe just one home meet—like this weekend.
