Rap duo creates concise rhymes
February 15, 1990
The duo of Chubb Rock and Howie Tee, since their success with their previous single, “I’m Caught Up,” have done it again with “And the winner is…”
If you want to get a rap album and know you’ll be satisfied with it, you should get this one.
Chubb Rock, the rapper, and Howie Tee, the D.J., have created a good album. The sampling and D.J. work done on this album is very innovative and keeps up with the competition.
The album contains many ryhmes of good quality. Chubb Rock makes a good effort of rhyming clearly and concisely. You’ll really understand what he’s trying to say through some of his tracks like, “And the winner is…” On this track he raps about how the Grammy Awards have not given rap the recognition it deserves.
All the tracks are the type of music that will keep you dancing with beats that are very hyped. On the track, “What A Difference” Chubb explains how his music and rhymes are different from other rappers.
On the track entitled “Blow the Whistle” he raps about the violence that is associated with the rap scene, especially at rap concerts, and how he will blow the whistle on people who do these types of things.
On another track called, “Hip Hop Rodeo” they use a sample from the old “Buffalo Gals” track by Malcolm McLaren.
Although Chubb Rock is not a veteran to the rap scene on a major scale, he probably wont be wearing the title of “just another rapper.”
The duo should be commended for writing, arranging, mixing and producing the music. This duo is very serious about their craft and keeping it from being tampered with from outsiders.
Although not spectacular, this album has a good mixture of innovative sampling. The rapping expertise of Chubb Rock makes it attractive for a listener to get into.
If you don’t buy the album, no major, but borrow it from a friend and check it out but a little warning; you may not want to give it back.
