Pro-life mass provides opportunity for prayer

A non-denominational service will be held this weekend in honor of 1.5 million unborn babies aborted each year.
The ecumenical service will be Sunday at 8 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center’s Regency Room.
Julie Synovic, from Students United for Life, said the service will feature speakers from the Newman Center, Students United for Life, Intervarsity and other pro-life organizations.
Father Eric Barr of the Newman Center and Dr. Zielinski are the featured speakers. Zielinski was one of the first doctors to study fetal pain and has worked with pro-life groups in the past.
Synovic said the service is in no way a protest. She said it is a chance to “get together and pray.” The service also will include a history of abortion.
Susan Vermeulen, co-chairwoman of the NIU Women’s Alliance, said the group would not stage a pro-choice demonstration in response to the service. “We’re trying to stay out of the political light,” she said.
